UPDATE: ADP-Macroeconomic Advisers See Oct Payrolls +106,000

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--An employment indicator published Wednesday by payrolls giant Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) and consultancy Macroeconomic Advisers reported an increase of 106,000 in private jobs in October. That compares with an expected 60,000 increase forecast by economists in a Dow Jones Newswires survey. In September, ADP's employment report showed private-sector job growth of 61,000, revised from an originally reported 58,000. The report comes ahead of Friday's government data on the labor market. Economists are forecasting nonfarm payroll growth of 80,000 in October, compared with an increase of 110,000 in September. The ADP-Macroeconomic Advisers estimate doesn't include jobs growth in the government sector. In September, the government sector created 37,000 jobs. According to the ADP Employment Report, service-sector jobs rose 134,000 in October, while goods-producing jobs fell 28,000, with 14,000 of the decline in the manufacturing sector.Small and medium-sized businesses increased payrolls, by 63,000 and 50,000 respectively, while large businesses saw jobs fall off by 7,000.

Astronauts Practice Launch

The crew of the space shuttle Atlantis practiced a launch countdown Tuesday at Kennedy Space Center. NASA technicians also spent time on the pad, fixing a helium valve.

Atlantis will carry the Columbus module to the International Space Station. The module will add significant living and work space, to the outpost.
